Happy National Orgasm Today!

This is your excuse to get off

Hello Sex Ed lovers!

Today is a *big* day for us....pun intended.

Its....

NATIONAL ORGASM DAY!

Yes, rejoice and be glad. Today, July 31st is National Orgasm Day. What a perfect day to leave you some of my favorite orgasm facts, tips, and tricks!

Interesting Orgasm Facts

  1. The clitoris has 8,000 nerve endings - as opposed to the penis, which has half of that. Vulva-owners, tune into that pleasure zone!

  2. Be mindful of your orgasms. Research shows that those who completed an 8-week mindfulness program had their orgasms increased by 30 percent!

  3. Some folks can have an orgasm just by thinking about it! The hands-free orgasm is REAL!

  4. For vulva-owners who have a period, orgasms may help relieve menstrual cramps. Another positive to having sex on your period. Don't be afraid of the negative stigma associated with it!

  5. Penis-owners last 7 minutes on average

  6. It takes vulva-owners at least 13 minutes of sexual activity to orgasm

  7. The most common type of orgasm comes from clitoral stimulation for vulva-owners

  8. Vulva-owners who have sex with vulva-owners are having the most orgasms. One study reported that 86% had frequent orgasms!

  9. The world's longest time it took to orgasm is reported to be 8 hours and 30 minutes for a penis-owner and 6 hours and 30 minutes for a vulva-owner.

  10. Vulva-owners who feel insecure are less likely to orgasm. More reason to ramp up your self-love and self-esteem routine!

Tips and tricks for vulva-owners

  1. Work on your solo-sex! The best way to have a satisfying sex life is to truly get to know yourself and your body. This means trying out different toys, techniques, touches, and time! (The 4 T's ;) )

  2. Explore ethical and feminist porn. Here are some awesome ethical porn sites: Make Love Not Porn, Bellesa, and Indie Porn Revolution.

  3. Eliminate any distractions that can hinder your lovin' (phones, pets, kids, etc.)

  4. Try out mindfulness/meditation. Working on a mindfulness routine can really help you achieve orgasm because it teaches you to get out of your own head and into your body and pleasure.

  5. Communicate with your partner about what you like. Nobody is a mind-reader! I have a post about communication on Tickle.Life. Here it is!

  6. Delay gratification! Otherwise known as edging, this simply involves delaying orgasm to have a better orgasm later on. I know it seems counterintuitive, especially for vulva-owners, but definitely try it out. I don't think you'll be disappointed!

  7. Experiment with hot and cold sensations. Try things like ice cubes, warming lube, and warm towels to quite literally *spice* up your sex life.

  8. Incorporate deep breathing techniques. Hint: I'll have an article all about Tantra coming up on the blog soon. Stay tuned!

  9. Don't look down on period sex. The first two days of your cycle is when vulva-owners are ultra-sensitive and could support some extra strong orgasms.

  10. Don't try hard to orgasm every time. Reframe your way of thinking to know that the end goal of sex does NOT have to be an orgasm. Enjoying your time and experiencing pleasure in your body is most important!

Tips for Penis-owners

Okay, so we know the orgasm-gap clearly exists. It is reported that 95% of heterosexual penis owners orgasm during sex consistently. But, that doesn't mean that there can't be issues to orgasm in the bedroom. Here are some tips I have for penis-owners.

  1. Like for vulva-owners, edging is a great way to spice up your orgasm. This helps you stay in a heightened state of arousal which will then make the orgasm more intense.

  2. Penis-owners, don't be afraid of prostate-play! There is SO much stigma around this, particularly for heterosexual folx. This is just another tool that you can use to enhance your enjoyment! So think about it like that.

  3. Try out different toys! Sex toys have NO gender. Anyone can enjoy different toys. Penis-owners can use vibrators for stimulation. It's a great way to increase blood flow to the penis.

  4. Training your pelvic muscles and focusing on your breathing can actually help you have multiple orgasms.
