It has been weeks since the release of the gut-wrenching video of George Floyd being murdered in cold blood by a police officer. We have heard of Breonna Taylor, who was brutally murdered in her bed, Tony McDade (A black trans man) being murdered by police, and SO many more. In that time, many white and non-black POC have been taking to the streets and social media posts (myself included) demanding justice. That is great.
But...........true change needs to be sustained. White folks cannot expect to attend one rally and then think of themselves as a voice for racial justice. Nope, unfortunately not how that works. In order for white and non -black POC to become allies, we must be doing anti-racism work EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Learning to become and stay anti-racist is a full-time job. We MUST commit to this process. I wanted to share some resources that I am finding helpful as I continue my journey to anti-racism.
I want to note one thing before I continue... ALL WHITE AND NON-BLACK POC HAVE BEEN OPPRESSORS IN THEIR LIFETIME THUS FAR. We live in a system that is ROOTED in white supremacy, and like it or not, we have benefitted from it. Oppressors can also be oppressed as well, in different facets. Intersectionality is everything, baby. Everything.
